At Blackburn Wirth, our commitment to the Phoenix community extends beyond the courtroom. We’re proud to announce our sponsorship ofFriends of the Children Phoenix and our involvement in planning the 2026 FRIENDraiser Gala—an event that supports one of the most innovative approaches to breaking the cycle of generational poverty in our city.
Why Friends of the Children Phoenix?
Friends of the Children Phoenix operates on a powerful premise: pairing vulnerable children with professional mentors (called Friends) who commit to 12+ years of consistent, transformative relationships. This long-term investment addresses one of the root causes of generational poverty—the lack of stable, positive adult relationships in children’s lives.
The results speak for themselves. Children in the Friends program are:
- More likely to graduate high school
- Less likely to become teenage parents
- More likely to avoid the juvenile justice system
- Better equipped with social-emotional skills for life success
This evidence-based approach aligns with our firm’s values of fighting for those who need advocates and investing in long-term community solutions.
From Sponsors to Planning Committee
In 2025, Blackburn Wirth sponsored a table at the FRIENDraiser Gala, experiencing firsthand the incredible work happening through this organization. The energy, commitment, and tangible impact inspired us to deepen our involvement.
For 2026, we’re honored to serve on the planning committee for the FRIENDraiser Gala, helping shape an event that will raise critical funds for children facing barriers to success. Our involvement reflects our belief that strong communities require active participation, not just financial support.
Taking Action: Winter Snack Pack Event
On December 5, 2025, our team will join Friends of the Children Phoenix volunteers to create winter snack packs for children facing food insecurity during winter break. When school is out, many children lose access to school meals, leaving them vulnerable during what should be a festive season.
These snack packs provide:
- Nutritious food to bridge the gap during winter break
- A tangible reminder that their community cares about them
- Relief for families struggling to make ends meet
- An opportunity for volunteers to directly impact children’s lives
This hands-on service reflects our firm’s philosophy that community involvement means rolling up our sleeves and doing the work alongside the organizations we support.
The Connection Between Our Work and Our Community Service
As attorneys, we often see the consequences when children don’t have the support systems they need. We represent clients whose lives have been shaped by trauma, neglect, and systemic failures. Friends of the Children Phoenix represents the preventive side of justice—intervening early to change life trajectories before crises occur.
Supporting this organization is an investment in:
- Prevention: Reducing the factors that lead to negative outcomes
- Empowerment: Giving children tools to build successful lives
- Community Strength: Creating a Phoenix where every child has opportunity
- Long-term Impact: Breaking cycles that perpetuate inequality
Learn More and Get Involved
We encourage Phoenix residents and businesses to explore Friends of the Children Phoenix’s website to learn about their programs, watch their powerful impact videos, and consider getting involved. Whether through event attendance, direct giving, or volunteer opportunities like the snack pack event, there are many ways to support this vital work.
The 2026 FRIENDraiser Gala will be an opportunity to celebrate the children, Friends, and supporters who make this program possible. We look forward to sharing more details as planning progresses.
At Blackburn Wirth, we believe that justice extends beyond courtroom victories to creating communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
